Basecamp komunitas TheoTown Indonesia
TheoTown is a city-builder mobile game with a surprisingly dedicated modding community. The Indonesian playerbase was active but scattered — across Discord, Telegram, and random Google Drive folders. There was no central home.
Building theotown.web.id was about giving the community a place that felt as polished as the game itself. A gallery for the best city creations, a plugin repository, guides in Bahasa Indonesia, and a space to celebrate local builders.
WordPress with Elementor because the community contributors are non-technical. The editorial workflow had to be accessible to someone who has never touched HTML.
02 / The Problem Space
Defining the core
user pain points.
01
Content Governance
A community platform lives and dies by its moderation. Setting up user roles, submission workflows, and quality gates in WordPress required custom plugin configuration and documented contributor guidelines.
02
Performance on WordPress
WordPress can be slow. With Elementor on top, it can be very slow. Aggressive caching, image optimization pipeline, and CDN configuration brought the site to sub-2s load time.
03
Keeping it Local
The platform had to feel Indonesian — not just translated. Local slang in copy, Indonesian city-building examples, and culturally relevant plugin categories made the difference between a community feeling welcome and feeling like a foreign import.
03 / Strategy & Execution
From hypothesis
to prototype.
2 Weeks
Surveyed 50+ community members on what they wanted from a central platform. Prioritized: plugin downloads, city gallery, and beginner guides. Everything else was secondary.
1 Week
WordPress install, theme selection, Elementor configuration, plugin setup (caching, SEO, security). Hosting chosen for Indonesian latency — sub-100ms for local visitors.
3 Weeks
Custom page templates for the gallery, plugin repository, and guides section. Contributor onboarding flow. Editorial calendar established.
1 Week
Soft launch in the Discord server. 200 members in the first week. 40 plugin submissions in the first month. Community moderation team recruited from active contributors.
